Within conventional silk production, the use of chemicals and hormones is very common. In addition to that, the cocoons are being boiled or dried out with the silk worm still trapped inside in order to get an undamaged filament. Peace silk production on the other hand enables the silk worm to either hatch from its cocoon naturally, or the cocoons are being cut open so the silk worm can emerge unharmed. While the production of peace silk is more labour and cost intensive, it is certainly a more sustainable and cruelty-free choice compared to conventional silk.
